PLANTINGS: Low maintenance foundation plantings, colorful perennial gardens, raised beds, rock features and lawn repair. Our talented and experienced team of designers understand what works best in our area and how to deal with challenges such as deer, slopes and poor soil conditions. Let our team give you ribbons of color and layers of interest. Your project will go from concept to reality with everything taken care of by our professional staff.  When we do a landscape project we give your new plantings a good soaking. Unless you hire us to return and water the new plants regularly, you will need to provide adequate water to help them get established. We have written up a Watering Guide to help you know when and how much to water your newly established shrubs and trees. Taking care of your new landscape project will pay off in it’s health and vigor for years to come.

DRAINAGE: Protect your basement and help the environment. Controlling the flow of water away from our homes and basements is important. Reducing runoff and reusing water is environmentally smart. At Michael Grimm Services our trained staff can identify, plan and install the right drainage system to alleviate your water issues. French drains, dry stream beds, buried downspouts, channel drains, rain barrels and rain gardens are just a few of the techniques we have at our disposal. Edging and Mulching

Natural mulch, when properly applied at a depth of 2 to 4 inches, is one of the best things you can do for your garden. A thick layer of mulch will retain moisture, suppress weeds, insulate roots and improve soil structure. Michael Grimm Services strongly recommends installing a new edge on beds as well as installing a top-dressing (1″) of fresh mulch over all garden areas on a yearly basis. We offer several different types of natural mulch including dyed brown, dyed black and hemlock. Michael Grimm Services does not recommend fabric under natural mulch.

Decorative Stone

For the ultimate in low maintenance make the switch to decorative stone instead of or in conjuction with natural mulch. When kept clean of debris and underlaid with weed barrier fabric, decorative stone can reduce the time spent weeding while improving your homes curb appeal. From pea gravel to Timberlite, limestone cobbles and boulders, add interest to your property with decorative stone. Our creative designers can also create benches and stone features with some of the interesting stone we have at our disposal.

Maintenance

We can help you maintain that newly created landscape or just beautify your existing property. Our professional employees are ready to make sure you get the most from your property. We can create a spade cut edge for your beds or we can install permanent edging. Top dressing your mulch improves the look of your landscape, the health of your soil, retains moisture and prevents the growth of weeds. For the ultimate in low maintenance make the switch to gravel unerlaid with weed barrier fabric. Perennial flowers need to be deadheaded after they complete their bloom cycle, cut back in the late fall and divided every few years. Newly planted shrubs, trees and hedges may need pruning attention to help train them in the first three to five seasons of growth. Regular attention to small details can alleviate the need for major renovations later on.

Clean Ups

At the beginning of the growing season and again at the end, we offer a complete cleanup service to collect the leaves and debris keeping your property looking it’s best.

Winters can be hard and some plants may need additional protection from cold tempertures and freezing winds. Additional mulch, wrapping with burlap or an application of an anti-desication spray can help protect your investment.  Keeping your beds clean, raked and mulched can help them thrive during the growing season.
